Broncos cruise past CSM

HASTINGS, Neb. – Hastings College clicked on all cylinders Wednesday in a 116-52 Great Plains Athletic Conference basketball victory over College of Saint Mary at Lynn Farrell Arena.

The Flames' chances took a dip when starting point guard Adriana McGee went down early with an injury and played just six minutes. Key freshman reserve Maura Tichota is still sidelined with an injury.

CSM (1-7 overall, 0-5 GPAC) committed 20 of its 26 turnovers in the first half, as the Broncos (6-1, 3-1) built a commanding 65-20 lead at the intermission.

"It was tough with Adriana hurt and Maura still hurt,'' CSM Coach Natalie Miller said. "Turnovers killed us, and having our starting point guard out made it tough to push the ball up the floor.''

Haley Debuse was a bright spot for the Flames. She finished with a game-high 21 points, hitting 7 of 21 from the field, including 1 of 3 beyond the arc, along with all six of her free throws.

"Haley had a huge game, being aggressive on offense and boxing out and clearing the way for others to rebound,'' Miller said.

Madelyn Gaughen added seven points and six assists for CSM, while Freda Moore grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

CSM returns to action Saturday at home with a GPAC matchup against Northwestern at 2 p.m.
