CSM struggles to get offense going vs. Concordia

SEWARD, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary soccer team couldn't get much offense going Wednesday night in a loss to Concordia University.

The Bulldogs defeated CSM 2-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference contest. Concordia outshot the Flames 12-2 in the game.

"This one's disappointing," CSM Coach Jordan Irsik said. "We've earned the opportunity to fight in these games and today we couldn't build the offense we needed.

"I felt we had a lot of the possession – especially down the stretch of the second half – but we aren't making scoring opportunities which is making it hard."

Concordia scored its first goal at 16:42 off an unassisted goal by Sierra Springer. The Bulldogs added an insurance goal at 80:05 from Ashlee Trujillo, assisted by Kierstynn Garner.

Bradi Ore got the shutout in net for Concordia. Alivia Schade had four saves as CSM's goalkeeper.

"Defensively we made some great plays," Irsik said. "Liv was fantastic – as she had been all season. We have to take some of the pressure off of them in the front third.

"We'll use this as motivation going forward."

CSM is now 4-2-2 in the GPAC and 6-3-4 overall. Concordia improves to 6-1-1, 10-3-1.

The Flames return to action Saturday with a 1 p.m. home contest vs. Doane University.
