Faubel finishes third at CSM Invite

OMAHA, Neb. -- Emily Faubel shot 13-over to place third and lead the College of Saint Mary golf team to a fourth place finish at the CSM Invite on Thursday afternoon.

The tournament was played at Tiburon Golf Course's Great White and Hammerhead nine-hole courses.

Coach Keri Rodriguez pointed out that "it was an incredibly windy day today. Scores were high for all teams."

Morningside's Sofia Castelan and Cameron Spellman each shot 10-over to tie for the individual title with Castelan winning a scorecard playoff. Faubel was just three strokes back.

The Castelan-Spellman duo powered the Mustangs to a comfortable 16-stroke victory over second place Doane University. Morningside shot 350 as a team to Doane's 366. Concordia (372), CSM (374), and Nebraska Wesleyan (384) rounded out the top five in the eight-team field.

"My team kept their heads up and tried their very best," acknowledged Rodriguez.

Gabby Sinnett joined Faubel with a top 10 finish shooting a 19-over to tie for eighth in the 50-golfer field.

Anna Moore (+25), Erika Headlee (+29), and Ritzy Dominguez (+35) placed 19th, 30th, and 38th to comprise the remainder of the fourth place CSM group.

The Flames' "B" team placed seventh, finishing ahead of Peru State. Avery Campbell led that unit with a 26-over score to tie for 22nd. Katie Freeman (+29) tied for 27th and Samantha Doughty (+30) was just a stroke tied for 31st.

Julissa Garcia (+35) and Ana Wilson (+36) tied for 38th and 40th, respectively.

in looking ahead to next week's Kaitlyn Erickson Doane Invite, coach Rodriguez said she's "hoping for a great tournament next week where we can battle the actual course and not the weather." First round play begins Monday, Apr. 15 at 10 a.m. at Wilderness Ridge Country Club with second round action teeing off on Tuesday, Apr. 16 at 9 a.m. from Pioneers Golf Course.
