College of Saint Mary is the home of Flames Athletics and boasts 11 varsity sports. Fall sports are cross country, soccer and volleyball. Winter sports are basketball, bowling, dance and swimming. Spring sports are golf, softball, track & field and tennis.

The Flames are members of the Great Plains Athletic Conference which is an affiliated conference of the the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), consisting of 12 private, faith-based colleges and universities in Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota and North Dakota. College of Saint Mary is an NAIA institution with an enrollment of roughly 1,000 students.
