CSM bowlers sitting in 11th after opening day

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The College of Saint Mary bowling team opened the 2024-25 season Saturday at the Hammer Golden Eagle Invite.

The Flames shot an opening-day score of 3,942 after five individual games and sit in 11th place in team competition.

CSM's strongest game was the first of the day with an 814 and the Flames finished with scores of 790, 804, 768 and 766. The tournament continues Sunday.

"For our first tournament of the season, I am pleased with the scores for individual games," CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "Transitioning as the oil broke down was what we struggled with the most today."

Jennica Soar led the Flames with 821 after games of 162, 183, 161, 142 and 173. Soar's 183 in the second game was CSM's top individual game of the day. Teammate Emily Merten was close behind with an 818 after games of 180, 150, 166, 177 and 145.

"The energy was good and the morale stayed high," Johnson said. "We were in eighth place after two games and dropped to 12th after four games.

"We're looking to move up tomorrow with strong Baker games."
