Flames have solid day at Leatherneck Classic

ROCKFORD, Ill. – College of Saint Mary Bowling Coach Corrinne Johnson said her squad worked hard Saturday at the Leatherneck Classic.

The Flames are sitting in 24th place with 3,803 total pins.

"Overall, it was a good day of bowling," Johnson said. "The ladies bowled their averages. We were down a bowler this weekend due to illness, but our new bowlers stepped up and got experience bowling some individual games.

Mount Mercy University leads the 30-team field with 5,098 total pins.

College of Saint Mary rolled sets of 785, 733, 758, 733 and 794 Saturday.

"All our sets were in the 700s and we kept our 24th place throughout the day," Johnson said.

Hannah O'Neal led the way for the Flames with an 851 that included a 204 in her first game of the day. Teammate Jennica Soar was right behind O'Neal with 848 total pins. Leilani Param also scored over 800 with an 816.

"Hannah started off the day with a 200 game," Johnson said. "She took that momentum through the day to average 170."

The two-day tournament continues Sunday. The Flames bowl at 8:30 a.m. and will roll 16 Baker games.

"The team is excited for Bakers tomorrow," Johnson said. "We are hoping to add some good pin counts to move up a couple of places."
