Soar flies to seventh-place finish in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Jennica Soar's seventh-place individual finish on Day 1 highlighted College of Saint Mary's participation in the two-day Mustang Invitational bowling tournament hosted by Morningside University on Saturday and Sunday.

"The ladies worked as a team,'' CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "Their attitudes and spirit were high all weekend, and most important, they had fun.''

The meet was split into two separate events.

On Day 1, Soar placed seventh among 97 bowlers, missing all-tournament team recognition by just three pins. She rolled games of 147, 141, 178, 203 and 192 for a 172.2 average. Rhyleigh Wilson of Columbia College won the event with a 197.6 average.

CSM finished 11th of 12 in the team competition on the first day with a total pin count of 3,432. Hastings College won with a total of 4,256.

Other finishers for the Flames on Day 1 were Hannah O'Neal, 41st with a 147.0 average; Kaitlyn Dickmeyer, 45th with a 141.2 average; Leilani Param, 59th with a 127.0 average; Fatima Aguayo, 88th with a 100.0 average; and Amariyah Moreno, 92nd with a 97.5 average.

"We bowled well and stayed consistent throughout the day,'' Johnson said. "Our two best blocks were the last two sets.''

On Sunday, the Flames started with a team total of 720, which was seventh among the 12 teams. They struggled in the final two of the 20 Baker games and settled for 12th place in the team standings with a team total of 3,456. Morningside won with a 4,399.

"We started Day 2 off well,'' Johnson said, "but our last two Baker games we couldn't figure the lane out.''

CSM is off until Jan. 25 and 26, when it travels to Belton, Mo., for the Eagle Invitational.

"We're looking forward to the holiday break, so we can spend time with family, rest and come back for the second half of the season,'' Johnson said. "We have three more regular-season tournaments and the conference tournament at the end of February.''
