Bowlers go 0-2 at KCAC Championships
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary bowling team went 0-2 on Saturday and was eliminated from bracket play in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference championships at Plaza Bowl.
In their first match, CSM lost 3-1 to the University of Saint Mary (Kan.). The Spires won the first two games by scores of 144-131 and 123-102, before the Flames won the third game, 159-139. The Spires took game four, 158-109, to advance.
"When we were bowling against the University of Saint Mary, they were making mistakes but we weren't taking advantage of them,'' CSM Coach Corrinne Johnson said. "We made our own mistakes.''
That dropped CSM into the consolation bracket, where it lost to Ottawa (Kan.) University in three straight, by scores of 167-153, 193-135 and 186-124.
Three Flames were named All-KCAC Scholar-Athletes: Hannah O'Neal, Amariyah Moreno and Kaitlyn Dickmeyer. Dickmeyer also was CSM's representative as its "Champion of Character.''
That ends the 2024-25 season for the Flames. After not fielding a full team last year, it was a step forward.
"The goal was to have a full team this year and compete, and we did that,'' she said. "They had fun, had a good time.''
