Rodriguez 'incredibly proud' as Flames are sitting in second place at Buena Vista Invite

STORM LAKE, Iowa – The College of Saint Mary golf team had an outstanding opening day at the Buena Vista Invite Saturday.

The Flames are currently in second place with a team score of 330. CSM trails just Central College heading into the final day of the tournament held at Lake Creek Country Club.

"I'm incredibly proud of how the team played today," CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "Everyone played well. We are only five strokes from first place. If we maintain our averages again tomorrow we have a great chance of winning this tournament."

Central College leads the pack with a 325 and Waldorf University is behind the Flames in third place with 333. In other team scores: Coe College 339; Buena Vista 346; Loras College 347; Augsburg University 348; Central 'B' 348; Simpson College 357; North Iowa Area Community College 359 and Nebraska Wesleyan University 373.

Amanda Karvala from Waldorf sits on top of the leaderboard with a +3 score of 75.

CSM's Victoria Farkas is tied for fourth with 79, while Katie Freeman is tied for 12th individually with 83. Teammates Erika Headlee, Emily Faubel and Gabby Sinnett are all tied for 19th place after shooting 84s.

"Victoria led the team with a 79 and Erika shot her collegiate PR with an 84," Rodriguez said.

Sunday's round starts at 9 a.m. with tee times.
