Flames improve dramatically, take 7th

LINCOLN, Neb. – College of Saint Mary made huge strides from Tuesday and Wednesday, improving by 24 strokes to secure seventh place in the Concordia Bulldog Spring Invite at Highlands Golf Course.

"The conditions were still far from ideal, but we managed the course better and played more aggressively, which helped us improve by 24 strokes today,'' CSM Coach Keri Rodriguez said. "We need to work on hot starts on day one, and we'll start seeing more top finishes.''

CSM finished with a 328 on Wednesday after a 352 on Tuesday, for a score of 680, just behind fifth-place Briar Cliff University (670) and sixth-place Northwestern College (676), and just ahead of eighth-place Dordt University (685). Doane University won with a 635, edging the University of Nebraska at Kearney by two strokes.

Individually for the Flames, Victoria Farkas led the way with a 79 on Wednesday, seven strokes better than Tuesday's 86 for a 165 total that was tied for 16th place. Ritzy Dominguez was 25th after improving by 13 strokes for a 91-78—169. Emily Faubel and Katie Freeman both tied for 33rd after an 87-86—173 and an 88-85—173, respectively. And Anna Moore tied for 61st with a 95-94—189.

CSM is back in action Friday and Saturday at the Peru State Spring Invite in Nebraska City, Neb.
