Flames record second straight blowout win

OMAHA, Neb. – Seven players burned the nets Wednesday as the College of Saint Mary opened Great Plains Athletic Conference soccer play with a resounding 11-1 victory over Waldorf University.

The Flames outshot the Warriors 55-1 in the romp, improving to 2-3-2 overall and following up on a 12-0 whitewash of Bethany College on Sept. 11 in their previous outing.

"I'm super proud of them. They played to a standard,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "Just being unrelenting and going at them and sending a message to the rest of the GPAC that we don't care who it is, we're going to play 100 miles an hour for 90 minutes.''

Four players tallied two goals apiece: Marissa Ring, Camila Muñoz, Kaitlin Smith and Ella Klusman. Jessica Slater, Abbie Anderson and Bella Olsen also got into the act with goals. Seven different players added an assist: Ring, Lesli Donis, Abbie Anderson, Kylie Anderson, Klusman, Elisa Franke and Abby Ostergaard.

Parkhill praised the continued consistent play of Abbie Anderson.

"She's kind of that engine in the midfield,'' he said. "She's usually finding teammates and she's a big part of what we do.''

CSM sprinted to a 4-0 lead in the first 13 minutes against the overmatched Warriors (0-6-0 overall, 0-1-0 GPAC), on goals by Ring, Abbie Anderson, Munoz and Smith.

The Flames return to GPAC play on Saturday in Mitchell, S.D. against Dakota Wesleyan.

"I'm excited to see what we can do,'' Parkhill said.
