Brezenski scores twice in Flames’ road victory

MITCHELL, S.D. – Sophomore Libbie Brezenski registered a pair of first-half goals, and the College of Saint Mary soccer team ran its win streak to three Saturday with a hard-fought 2-0 Great Plains Athletic Conference victory over Dakota Wesleyan at the Pepsi-Cola Complex.

"A gutsy, gritty win,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "It wasn't pretty at times, but overall I'm happy with the effort in the win.''

The Flames squared their overall record at 3-3-2 and improved to 2-0-0 in conference play.

"Moving to 2-0 in the GPAC and gaining some momentum into this part of the season are huge,'' Parkhill said.

Brezenski, a graduate of Scotus Catholic in Columbus, Neb., scored her first goal in the 30th minute off an assist from Elisa Franke. In the 32nd minute, Brezenski found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.

"Those were two massive goals,'' Parkhill said. "Her effort on the wing to take on players allowed us to see out the game.''

The Flames outshot their opponent 14-7, and Alivia Schade made three saves to record a clean sheet.

College of Saint Mary will return to action Wednesday at home with a 3 p.m. GPAC match against Mount Marty.

"I'm proud of these ladies, and now our focus moves to Mount Marty,'' Parkhill said.
