Morningside snaps CSM’s five-match win streak

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Morningside made an unassisted goal in the 24th minute by Melissa Tsatiris stand for a 1-0 Great Plains Athletic Conference soccer victory over College of Saint Mary on Saturday at Olsen Stadium.

The loss knocked the Flames off their perch atop the GPAC, dropping them to 4-1 in league play and 5-4-2 overall. It also snapped their five-match win streak.

"Tough one today,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "We had opportunities to score to level, but just couldn't find the back of the net.''

CSM wasn't able to convert a penalty kick in the 18th minute, among its other opportunities. The Mustangs (2-3-4, 1-2-2) were credited with 17 total shots and nine shots on goal, including Tsatiris' first goal of the season.

CSM had six total shots and five on goal. Flames keeper Alivia Schade was credited with eight saves.

"We had moments in transition that we need to be better in,'' Parkhill said. "It's a tough one to swallow, but we will learn from it and move on to the next one.''

CSM returns to action on Wednesday at home with a 3 p.m. GPAC match against Doane.
