Chargers stay hot, handle Flames

OMAHA, Neb. – Eyrun Vala Hardardottir, a freshman from Reykjavik, Iceland, registered a goal and three assists to lead Briar Cliff University past the College of Saint Mary 5-1 Saturday in Great Plains Athletic Conference soccer action.

The Chargers, after starting the season 0-8-2, are now 5-8-2 overall and 5-3-1 in GPAC play. CSM dropped to 5-7-3 and 4-3-1.

"We didn't have our best game,'' CSM Coach Jamison Parkhill said. "Our injuries are starting to stack up and are really killing our flow.''

The Chargers, with international players comprising 25 of the 28 players on their roster, raced to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Trailing 5-0, the Flames managed to get on the scoreboard in the 64th minute when Kylie Anderson scored off an assist from Abbie Anderson.

That was the only highlight for CSM.

"We need to find a way to compete in these games to make any kind of run,'' Parkhill said. "We will reset and go again on Wednesday.''

The Flames return to action Wednesday night at 7 at Concordia University.
