
Flames claim GPAC swim invite
FREMONT, Neb. – The Liz Germonprez Era is off to a flying start.
The new College of Saint Mary swim coach led her team to a convincing win in the GPAC Invite on Saturday. The Flames scored 651 points to easily outdistance Midland (332), Morningside (272) and Dordt (229).
"It was a great day for Flames swimming,'' Germonprez said. "For our first meet of the season the team really came together, supporting each other and cheering for each other.''
CSM was led by three first-place performances. Returning national qualifier Kylee Brown won the 200 freestyle (2:03.39), Jaidyn Vanschoiack took the 50 backstroke (30.90) and Mia Gauvin grabbed the 100 individual medley (1:05.01).
"In addition, the depth of our team really came through today,'' Germonprez said. "We had numerous second- and third-place finishes.''
Seconds went to Juliet Balman in the 50 butterfly (32.17), Cailyn Nielsen in the 50 breaststroke (35.43), Addison Miller in the 500 freestyle (5:57.61) and 1,000 freestyle (12:12.62), Chloe Hale in the 100 butterfly (1:10.37), Brown in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.52) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Brown, Gauvin, Hannah Steinmetz and Isabella Promes (3:56.24).
Thirds went to Steinmetz in the 1,000 freestyle (13:07.26), Hale in the 100 IM (1:09.51), Naomi Huttenga in the 50 breaststroke (36.18), Gauvin in the 100 backstroke (1:05.25) and the 200 medley relay team of Gauvin, Emma B'Hymer, Brown and Vanschoiack (2:02.88).
The Flames will return to action on Thursday at the William Jewell Triangular in Liberty, Mo.
