Flames earn runner-up finish at Spire Relays

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The College of Saint Mary swim team turned in a strong performance Saturday, earning a runner-up finish here in the Spire Relays.

The host University of Saint Mary won the meet with 184 team points, followed by CSM with 110, Midland University with 56 and Dordt University with 28.

"This team continues to support each other and leave it in the water,'' CSM Coach Liz Germonprez said.

The Flames turned in four first-place finishes. The 3 x 100 backstroke relay team of Mia Gauvin, Jaidyn Vanschoiack and Chloe Hale won in 3:15.63. The 800 freestyle relay quartet of Kylee Brown, Gauvin, Hannah Steinmetz and Addison Miller triumphed in 8:42.26. The 3 x 500 freestyle relay team of Brown, Steinmetz and Miller won in 17:40.00. And the 4 x 100 IM relay unit of Gauvin, Brown, Hale and Steinmetz brought it home in 4:32.29.

Two other relay teams placed second: the 400 medley relay squad of Hale, Brown, Gauvin and Vanschoiack in 4:29.48, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Isabella Promes, Vanschoiack, Kylee Jo Farson and Juliet Balman in 4:07.03.

Three more Flames relay teams ended third: the 3 x 100 backstroke relay team of Promes, Steinmetz and Farson in 3:24.94, the 100 freestyle relay team of Olivia Poole, Emma B'Hymer, Cailyn Nielsen and Autumn Neale in 56.88, and the 500 crescendo relay team of Farson, Balman, Promes and Miller in 5:20.49.

The Flames will be back in action on Nov. 9 in a dual with Morningside at UNO.
