
Brown 5th in 200 free; Neale named ‘Champion of Character’
HOBART, Ind. – College of Saint Mary turned in two more top-eight finishes on Friday as day two of the three-day Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships continued at the Hobart Aquatic Center.
Sophomore Kylee Brown recorded the top individual finish in Friday night's finals, placing fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.93.
The 200 medley relay of Jaidyn Vanschoiack, Mia Gauvin, Brown and Isabella Promes took seventh in 1:53.28. In that race, Gauvin swam a personal-best 31.21 split on her breaststroke leg, and Promes swam a personal-best 24.90 split on her freestyle anchor, breaking the magical 25-second barrier.
The Flames had six other individual finals swims on Friday. Promes placed 13th in the 200 freestyle (2:03.60). Cailyn Nielsen swam a huge personal best (1:12.09) in the 100 breaststroke to finish 13th, while Naomi Huttenga was 15th in the same race (1:13.97). In the 100 backstroke, Gauvin swam a deeper B-cut qualifying time of 1:01.91 to place 13th, while Chloe Hale was 14th (1:02.19) and Vanschoiack was 16th (1:03.12).
"Flames swimmers brought grit, resilience and love of their team to the pool today!'' CSM Coach Liz Germonprez said.
In addition, junior Autumn Neale earned the prestigious All-KCAC Champion of Character award.
