CSM tennis wraps up fall season

HASTINGS, Neb. – The College of Saint Mary tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of the season Saturday by playing in the Hastings Bronco Invite.

The Flames played four matches in the two-day team tournament and ended with a 2-2 record. CSM lost to Hastings College Friday night before defeating Tabor University and Baker University Saturday morning. The Flames were then beaten by Doane University in their final match-up.

"Overall we finished 2-2 on the weekend and add four non-conference matches to our season," CSM Coach Mike Johnson said. "It was a great start to the season with wins from all players attending the tournament Saturday morning. We had some great play after a disappointing late-night match vs. Hastings Friday night."

Johnson said the Flames concluded their weekend with a nail-biter loss to Doane where three of the six matches ended in third-set tie breaking with Doane edging the Flames out on two of the three tie breakers.

"It was a fun weekend with lots of tennis," Johnson said. "Everybody won, everybody lost and everybody learned more about themselves. We go back to practice this week with some direct match-driven agenda items to address as we continue to get 'match tough.'"
